Rei Egusquiza. is a native Houstonian. After living in New York for 12 years, he recently returned to his hometown.
Beginning his artistic endeavours with writing, the subjects in his work eventually prompted an interest in illustrating them - eventually leading to a broader interest in art. Drawing inspiration from heraldry, myth and geography, he uses pen, pencil and collage to depict notable people and themes.
The near-symmetric figures suggest a striving for perfection though each is built over a series of errors. The same figures are ghosts against the backdrop of an old building, a field, a face. In collage, they fade into their environment in deference to it.
He continues to explore other media to further reinforce his approach.
